Eclipse® is the latest proprietary hop from HPA, the largest hop breeder and grower in Australia, and member of the BarthHaas group. It imparts fruit-forward flavors of sweet mandarin, zesty citrus peel, and fresh pine needles.
“Eclipse was originally crossed in 2004 and commercialized in 2020. As the craft market took off, it became clear that Eclipse would make an impression with its easily identifiable mandarin flavor. I like to say, it does exactly what it says on the label. Now brewers around the world are using Eclipse in their core range because of its undeniable impact in beer, meaning it can be used in smaller quantities to achieve comparable hop flavors and aromas.” — Owen Johnson, Head of Sales & Marketing, HPA
Bred from high-alpha Australian hops and North American hops, Eclipse offers a sweet mandarin flavor with hints of zesty citrus peel and fresh pine needles.
Eclipse seems like it was custom-made for today’s citrusy fruit bombs—whether it’s NEIPAs, IPAs or Hazy IPAs. It works in West Coast styles as well.
With a name like Eclipse, it begs to take center stage, but this hop also pairs well—and pares back—to take its place in lighter styles like lagers and ales.
For optimal results, the depth and complexity of Eclipse is best accessed through late kettle additions, during dry hopping or late fermentation.
