McKenzie™ C-148 c.v. is the first proprietary hop from West Coast Hop Breeding, a collective of family-owned farms in Oregon’s famous Willamette Valley. Bred to be organically grown, McKenzie requires less spraying and water use while producing fast-growing hops with a unique stone fruit and citrus aroma.
“The aroma profile of McKenzie is layered and complex…it has quite a bit of floral to it. It has some cedar notes to it, it has some citrus—it's sort of a Centennial hop on steroids. If you like brewing with Centennial, you'll love brewing with McKenzie. I’m a big fan.” – Larry Sidor, Founder, Crux Fermentation Project
Its light, citrusy and stone fruit aroma and flavor characteristics come through in late kettle additions, or dry hop for wonderful piney aromas in pale ales.
A highly versatile hop, McKenzie works well in lighter style beers, like Lagers, Pilsners, and Kölsch and also blends well in hop-foward IPAs and Hazys.
Specifically bred to fight the pests and downy mildew of Oregon’s climate, McKenzie helps reduce the amount of inputs needed to produce healthy, thriving crops.
McKenzie grows full on the bine, it trains itself (which means less work and less fuel) and picks early in the season (which further reduces water and pesticide use).
